I AM
a design ethnographer and research maker cultures in times of polycrisis. In my PhD at the Institute for Sociology and Cultural Organisation at Leuphana University Lüneburg, I explored urban living labs in the rural areas of North-Eastern Germany and investigated how they mobilise design as an agent of eco-social change. I have a background in integrative design, experimental typography and media studies.

To remake means to renew, rework, make better. – I remade the POKAL glasses from Ikea after Ikea copied them from Duralex. The PICARDIE glasses (Duralex) are mainly known from the French gastronomy. They are mass produced, cheap and unbreakable.
What does it mean, when mass produced goods become objects of cultural identification?
By molding the glasses with clay from the inside and outside and creating a set of two pieces, they have lost their former attributes. The clay cups are fragile, unique pieces, and the production costs I better not calculate.
By remixing holiday-in-France memories with Ikea‘s cooperate identity and the meaning of crafts, I try to upgrade and increase the value of my personal affinity with a profane mass produced object.
